Simple Mindful Meditation...

What is it?
Simple-Mindful Meditation is an easy technique to release mental tensions and stressors and their associated emotional and physical responses.  The idea is to notice the myriad thoughts and images that pass by in your mind  from a place of observation, like the passing of an automobile on the freeway. This tool  can be applied anywhere and at anytime.  For example, while waiting in line at your favorite coffee shop, at the grocery store, in the bank or while sitting in traffic.

How Does It Work?
To begin, sit in a quiet place where you can focus your attention with the intention of being present in this moment. Start by taking in deep, long breaths and exhaling completely.  Do this several  times until your body begins to relax and unwind.

Then, gently close your eyes and imagine that your are at your favorite place in nature. Begin by remembering the experience of a bird, butterfly, or dragonfly fluttering by. Just imagine several passing by your field of awareness as if you were watching a television screen. Next, imagine or remember looking up in the blue sky on a sunny day. Recall the passing of an airplane and several clouds. Continue to notice what you notice, as you watch these images pass by in your mind’s eye.

After several minutes, turn your awareness inward as if you were viewing a television screen inside of your head. Imagine that you can see your thoughts and images on that screen just as you did the birds, planes, and clouds in the sky. You do not have to do anything, just notice what you notice and let them pass.  Keep breathing and letting go.  You did it!  You have now reached a state of Being Here and Now.
